This position’s primary function is to perform a variety of clinical and clerical functions to assist the staff in providing patient care. This includes performing venipuncture, processing specimens, maintaining stock, chaperoning physicians and keeping the area clean and orderly. Weekends/holidays coverage is necessary on a rotating basis.
Use appropriate sterile and precautionary procedures when drawing specimens.
Adhere to insurance requirements regarding the laboratory to be used in each circumstance.
Utilize EMR to access necessary clinical information, process lab orders, and to document patient care activities, outcomes, and test results.
Establish a compassionate environment and relay information to patients per physician instructions.
Take heights, weights, and vital signs and document results appropriately.
Ensure all equipment/utensils/instruments are cleaned and sterilized after use on a daily basis.
Lift buckets of speculums and carry them to the cleaning room -- up to 20 pounds. Lift and transport supplies to the appropriate storage space -- up to 30 pounds.
Assist physician with fertility-related procedures such as intrauterine inseminations, SHGs, pap smears and transvaginal ultrasounds.
High School Diploma or GED.
Phlebotomy certificate with relevant experience.
0-1 years of phlebotomy experience required.
Ability to communicate clearly and accurately in a pleasant, courteous manner with patients, visitors and co-workers.
Ability to organize work and accommodate a changing and unpredictable environment.
Must be able to deal with a flexible/often complex coordination of schedule to satisfy diversity among patients and co-workers.
