The Credentialed Medical Assistant/Medical Secretary is responsible for working interdependently with other health care professionals to provide quality health care to patients. He/she is educated and trained to perform both clinical and administrative skills in the medical care environment.
Coordinate and obtain financial authorization for radiology, laboratory, and procedures. Obtain pre-certifications for ambulatory procedures, medications and other services.
Scan insurance cards and outside records via CROWN (EMR) enter referring physicians and pharmacy information into patients record on CROWN ( EMR)
Responsible for obtaining authorization to release medical records, collecting payment, copying records and mailing to requesting patients or companies
Provides clinical office support to Department of Urology Faculty Practices
Check schedules and organize patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring, dressing, collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc
Assists physicians with various procedures such as cystoscopies, and biopsies in an outpatient setting. Must be able to record vital signs, and relay instructions to patients and or families; answer calls and provides pertinent information
Maintains logging system as required for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, point of care testing or others as needed. Checks expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies disposing appropriately
Record patient interview, history and chief complaint in CROWN (EMR). Provide patient education with regards to office policies.
Request order entries within CROWN
Provides set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies
Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infections body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation and other hazardous substances
High School Diploma
Medical Assisting Certificate, AAMA Certification required.
