Hematology/Oncology Floater will be responsible for the daily billing functions and day-to-day scheduling of patients for ancillary tests and infusion for the Hematology/Oncology Division in the Department of Medicine.
Responsibilities
Serves as check-out for patient office visits
Answers telephone and provides routine information
Schedules patient follow-up MD appointments using EPIC (Electronic Health Record)
Schedules and prepares orders for patient blood test, chemotherapy and admissions
Processes medication refill requests
Obtains authorizations for ancillary services requested by provider
Schedules ancillary services on behalf of patient and prepares requisitions
Scans patient documentation into EPIC for archiving
Reviews patient health history forms for completeness
Mails and or faxes patient reports to referring physicians
Register patient demographics using EPIC
Verifies, reviews, and updates accuracy of insurance, demographic, and guarantor information
provided by patients.
Maintains and requests needed information such as referrals/insurance claims, and EOB’s
Recognizes and pursues appropriate course of action in patient interactions to collect payments at time of service and/or reviews past balances to collect payments.
Prepares TOS logs for payments received
Performs other related duties assigned or requested
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
High school Graduate or GED equivalent
2 years of College education and bilingual (English/Spanish) preferable.
Minimum Experience:
1-2 years of prior experience as a medical secretary/ medical biller.
Knowledge of EPIC, CPT, and Medical Terminology preferred.
Minimum Field or Expertise:
Good communications skills.
Must be well organized and attentive to details.
Proficient typing and computer skills.
