Medical Biller will be responsible for the day-to-day billing and practice operations of a high volume practice of the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia Midtown.
Handle the billing: Ability to review charges, in particular the encounter forms in CROWN and TES encounter. This includes identifying and verifying that the procedure codes, diagnosis and fees are correct before submitting and/or extracting an encounter.
Be able to assist patients with Out of Network Insurance Information. Printing self-pay claims forms when required.
Answer phone calls from existing patients: Ability to answer billing questions and/or review the account.
Discuss fees with new patients as necessary.
Schedule and arrive appointments for off-site practices.
Follow-up on Day Program and Physician’s open account receivable via ETM system.
Insurance verification and authorization request.
High School degree required or two years of college degree.
Two years of medical billing experience or a minimum of two to three years of related experience.
Knowledge of GE-IDX web billing and scheduling systems preferred or a Practice Management system.
Knowledge of Medical terminology specifically pertaining to CPT-4 and ICD 10 coding.
Knowledge of EHR experience preferred.
Computer literate and knowledge of current Microsoft applications.
Working knowledge of Managed Care plans, with an overall understanding of how the insurance plans work, including referrals and pre-authorizations.
