Under the direction of the Lead Ultrasound Technologist and the Medical Director; performs all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation and archiving Ultrasound (US) images; responsible for the care of the patient while in the US area.
Reviews imaging requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. All questionable orders are communicated to the radiologist for final approval.
Positions patient and selects appropriate options to visualize areas of interest based on accepted US technique and the referring physician’s request.
Judges diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to radiologist for interpretation.
Performs clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing and archiving of patient records.
Offers detailed explanation of diagnostic procedures to patients and answers questions as appropriate.
Set up and assist in sonographic Core biopsies and FNAs.
Observes patient while in the ultrasound area for change in status and makes appropriate intervention or contacts primary care givers for instruction.
Operates and maintains equipment on a daily basis maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data: schedules PM, performs QA, maintains records required for and participates in inspections.
