Medical Secretary will be responsible for the day-to-day clerical operations of a high volume Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery Practice.
Represents the physician practice by screening incoming telephone calls; recording and transmitting messages to the appropriate staff; scheduling, receiving, and announcing scheduled patients and visitors; screening unscheduled patients and visitors.
Solicit patient co-payments, deductible payments and aged balance payments. Confirming referrals and invite patients to join the portal.
Verify and update patient demographics, insurance and pharmacy information in EMR and/or IDX.
Schedule clinical testing for patients and communicate all pertinent testing information to the patient.
Schedule office appointments for new and established patients.
Obtain third-party insurance carrier pre-certification and/or pre-authorization for all patient testing as required.
Types a variety of routine material such as correspondence, which may be of a complex and/or confidential nature.
Maintain patient EMR (CROWN) by scanning all paper documentation into proper electronic folders.
High School Diploma. Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent in education, training, and experience in clinical practice setting.
Knowledge of IDX scheduling and billing systems preferred.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
Two to three years related experience.
Must consistently demonstrate excellent customer service skills in a high-pressure environment. Must possess the capacity to interact with colleagues at every level and must be committed to maintaining strict patient confidentiality. Bilingual in English and Spanish is an added plus.
