Patient Financial Advocates serve as liaisons between the patient and/or family and the hospital. Patient Financial Advocates are ready to assist patients with financial questions and payment issues that may arise regarding their insurance coverage and help attain resolution to end their visit with a positive experience.
Assist patients and families to explore insurance coverage options for medical services with referral to Social Services when appropriate.
Meet with patients to discuss estimated costs of services. Follow up with patients and families for financial inquiries and assistance.
Run and review small balance reports for revenue capture inclusive of outstanding balances and setting up payment plans prior to appointments. Populate the IDX ADF scheduling field to communicate with Secretaries regarding revenue collections (Deductibles, co-insurances, and co-Pays). Audit pre-collection reports to assist in the collection of delinquent accounts receivables prior to being referred to vendors.
Manage day to day accounts with pre-payment and post payment allocation on outstanding balances
Work closely with patients to resolve account balance issues to include self-pay discounts, and establish payment plans.
Obtains eligibility and authorizations for diagnostic tests (i.e., specialized scans and medical imaging).
Respond to departmental and vendor requests via the ETM module in the university billing platform.
High School graduate or GED certificate
A minimum of two years experience in a health related agency or academic health-care setting.
Excellent communication skills to include oral and written comprehension and expression in the English language.
Ability to follow through and handle tasks simultaneously, work independently and willingness to exhibit behaviors consistent with standards for performance improvement, principles for service excellence, and organizational values (e.g., efficiency and financial responsibility; safety; partnership and service; teamwork; compassion; integrity; trust; and respect).
Must be a motivated individual with a positive attitude and exceptional work ethic.
Awareness of philosophy of care as it relates to Patient Financial Services.
Demonstrates ability to act with sensitivity as a patient advocate.
Demonstrates interview skills and clearly defines the problems and concerns to patients and family systems as related to medically related financial needs.
