A Medical administrative assistant uses a variety of organizational skills, industry-relevant knowledge and technology to efficiently manage the front office of a healthcare service provider. This person would serve as a liaison between the patient, family, and medical health care team during the outpatient visit. The MAA would perform all clinical and medical assistant duties as requested by the provider, operational duties in coordinating patient flow throughout the space, and supporting the team with administrative functions and care of patients.
Measures and documents the patient’s vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure), height, weight, medical history, medication list, social history, current complaint, etc. in the patient’s EMR in an accurate and complete manner while meeting all Meaningful Use measures.
Maintains clean exam/treatment rooms as well as restocked with all appropriate equipment for all in office procedures (i.e., lap band adjustments) on a daily basis. Maintains inventory of any medical supplies needed.
Manage a smooth and operational flow based on the daily schedule as well as handle unanticipated appointments and walk-ins.
Performs managed care insurance verification via IDX report 131; Verifies managed care insurance co-pays and outstanding balance(s) due using IDX report 29000.
Receives and reviews patient information at check-in/out to ensure that the patient has their clinical summary information and all time of service co-pays are collected. Assist in ensuring that all patient visits have the proper billing documentation that is scanned into patient charge for billers to retrieve if necessary, including but not limited to all relevant and accurate patient demographic and insurance information.
Performs routine administrative activities to include, but not limited to: answering phones, making appointments, ensuring that managed care referrals are accurate and entered into IDX, scanning and filing documents into the EMR and tasking the appropriate personnel to review, check mail for all incoming patient and office correspondence.
Schedule appointments (office visits, surgeries and ancillary services) in the proper format. Assist in Coordinating outpatient/inpatient surgical booking.
Minimum of 6 months-1 year of experience in a clinical/practice setting
High School Diploma or equivalent
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Certification
Ability to work in a team environment
Demonstrates articulate and professional communication
Conform to all applicable HIPAA, Billing compliance and safety guidelines
Extensive contact with patients, patient family members, medical staff, and other support staff
