Works under the direction of the Supervising Mammography Technologist and, administratively, the Practice Administrator; performs all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation and archiving mammography, bone density studies as requested by referring physician and consistent with the facility’s guidelines.
Reviews imaging requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. All questionable orders are reviewed with the radiologist and at the radiologist discretion the referring physician.
Positions patient and selects appropriate options to ensure best case imaging based on accepted standard of practice and ColumbiaDoctors/NewYork- Presbyterian Imaging protocols.
Judges diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to radiologist for interpretation.
Offers detailed explanation of diagnostic procedure to patients and answers questions as appropriate.
Observes patient while in the imaging area for changes in status and makes appropriate intervention or contacts primary care-givers for instruction.
Operates and maintains equipment on a daily basis maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data; schedules PM; performs QA, maintains records required data for and participates in inspections.
Assists radiologist with stereotactic core biopsies, FNA, setting up patient, ensuring all documentation pre and post procedure is complete.
