The Medical Assistant (MA) will be responsible for the day-to-day functions of a high volume Cardiology satellite practice for the Center for Interventional Vascular Therapy including managing the patient flow, regularly accessing the patient operations and ensuring that all medical supplies are available as needed.
Checking patients in, verifying all insurance and health records, and collecting co- payments. Triaging patients into examination rooms including escorting patients to and from rooms.
Performing vital signs, EKGs, weight and height, medical and medication history and documenting the information in the ERM system. Collection and preparation of laboratory specimens, as necessary.
Setting up examination rooms each morning and turning over of rooms between each patient.
Medical record requests from referring physicians and testing facilities.
Scheduling all patient diagnostic testing and obtaining authorization.
Maintaining and updating appointment schedules and calendars in IDX.
Maintaining a daily log of charge tickets and coordinating with the billing team.
Provide patient/guardian with appropriate letters, prescriptions or follow up instructions as prescribed by treating physician.
This position requires travel to multiple locations in Manhattan.
Graduate of a medical assisting course accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health (CAAHEP) or by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)
Certification by the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
Five (5) plus years medical assistant experience, preferably in cardiology.
Experience in communicating with insurance companies for pre-certifications andcoverage approvals a must.
Knowledge of interventional cardiology or surgery a big plus.
Strong ability to effectively communicate with other employees at all levels of the organization as well as with the general public.
