Reports to the Practice Operations Manager and Director of Practice Administration in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, the Medical Secretary Float will be responsible for the day-to-day clerical operations of a high volume Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Practice across five different practice sites.
Represents the physician practice by screening incoming telephone calls; recording and transmitting messages to the appropriate staff; scheduling, receiving, and announcing scheduled patients and visitors; screening unscheduled patients and visitors.
Solicit patient co-payments, deductible payments and aged balance payments. Confirming referrals and invite patients to join the portal.
Verify and update patient demographics, insurance and pharmacy information in the patient EMR
Schedule clinical testing for patients and communicate all pertinent testing information to the patient. Schedule office appointments for new and established patients.
Obtain third-party insurance carrier pre-certification and/or pre-authorization for all patient testing as required.
Maintain accurate recording of all patient contact in the patient EMR.
Types a variety of routine material such as correspondence, which may be of a comp1ex and/or confidential nature.
Maintain patient EMR by scanning all paper documentation into proper electronic folders.
High School Diploma
Bachelor's degree preferred or the equivalent in education, training and experience in clinical practice setting
EMR (EPIC) and scheduling systems preferred
Knowledge of basic medical terminology
2-3 years of related experience preferred
Must have excellent customer service skills in a high-pressure environment.
Must be able to interact with all levels of staff and must have an understanding of patient confidentiality.
